SLO County is lucky to have dedicated partners and community members engaged in promoting health countywide. Take a look below to see some of the coalitions and committees doing this important work and how you can get involved.
Tobacco Control Coalition
In 1990, San Luis Obispo was the first city in the world to ban smoking in public restaurants and bars. Since then, the work continues. The Tobacco Control Coalition advocates for smoke-free policies, educates on the harm of cigarette litter, and works to protect community members from second-hand smoke.
Healthy Communities Work Group
The Healthy Communities Work Group is a collaboration between public health officials, local planning and transportation officials, community-based organizations, academia, and community members, working to improve health through community design.
Farmworker Outreach Taskforce
The Farmworker Outreach Taskforce (FWOTF) is a collaborative of agencies and community-based organizations that support farmworkers and their families in San Luis Obispo County. The FWOTF strives to increase farmworker communities’ access to basic needs and health services through monthly gatherings and bi-weekly e-mail updates.
SLO Opioid Safety Coalition
The SLO County Opioid Safety Coalition was established to address the local epidemic of opioid misuse. It is driven by a diverse coalition of community members, including law enforcement, physicians, pharmacists, treatment professionals, government agencies, educators and others who are working to collaboratively address the problem in SLO County.
Adult Services Policy Council
The Adult Services Policy Council is a collaboration that works together to meet the health and human service needs of adults and seniors, ensuring access to a full continuum of resources and independence.
